At Monteney Primary School we strive to provide an engaging, relevant and broad curriculum which develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding. Our curriculum is built around the objectives set out in the national curriculum which covers the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, History, Geography, Art and Design, Design Technology, MFL, Music, Physical Education, Languages and Citizenship. Personal Social Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and Religious Education are also part of our curriculum.
At Monteney Primary we adopt a thematic approach to learning focussing on Project Based Learning. This approach includes the elements of multiple draft, critique and exhibitions. Discrete subjects are taught where relevant. The themes develop key knowledge and skills in curriculum areas through a common context and are chosen in order to be engaging and relevant to the children. Discrete subjects are taught where relevant.
Alongside our commitment to providing an enjoyable and interesting curriculum, we also have a rigorous approach to progress. The objectives set out in the national curriculum have been appropriately designated to different year groups making sure that as a child develops at Monteney Primary they are continually gaining knowledge and developing new skills. We ensure the children are able to share their understanding and successes in a variety of ways, mainly through our termly exhibitions of learning.
