A A A

Welcome to our Reception page.

We have two fabulous Reception Classes. We have the Engineers and the Scientists. We have both indoor and outdoor provision for the children to explore daily. Children learn through play in EYFS and we believe in a child-centred approach. During their time in Reception, children will also learn to read through daily Phonics teaching and regular reading practice. We encourage parents to read daily with their child at home.

Meet the Team

In Reception this year we have:

Mrs Ludlam - Class teacher RecLL, Assistant Head and EYFS Leader (Monday-Thursday)

Mrs Nichol - HLTA RecLL (Fridays + PPA cover)

Mrs Wilson - Teaching Assistant

Miss Wilson - Teaching Assistant (Monday-Wednesday)

EYFS Curriculum

Early Years Foundation Stage
In Foundation Stage 2 we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (Development Matters). Our end goal in the Summer Term is to have met the ‘Early Learning Goals’ across the 7 Areas of Learning. We use Little Wandle to plan and deliver daily phonics lessons. (We send home a weekly phonics homework activity every Monday)

Children can access Continuous Provision in both Foundation Stage Classrooms and our Outdoor Area is open all day, every day – whatever the weather! Some of the activities the children can choose from are as follows: Junk Modelling, Role-Play Area, Construction Area, Small World Area, Sand Tray (Indoor and Outdoor), Water Tray, Transient Art, Malleable Area, Funky Fingers, Maths Area, Writing Area, Jigsaw Station, Computer Area, Reading Area, Mud Pit, Outdoor Area.

We learn so much during our first year at Monteney Primary. Here are our Units of Learning, Mathematics and Literacy teaching and learning coverage for the year. If you would like to find more about FS2 at Monteney please take a look at our family booklet and pupil booklet. You can find them on the website.
